I'm a pencil and paper guy at heart.įor this computer picture annotation line of thinking, the GNU Image Manipulation Program is free and has text, vector and pencil tools, and the major 2.10 release happened earlier this year. Of course, I'd probably just print a batch of the base image and draw on them with markers. If you want to use a phone or tablet, Autodesk sketchbook might do the trick. These are hardly apps, but they are cheap enough. I then added a layer to draw patchcords and notes. This was made by grabbing (Grabbit) a random rack off modulargrid and importing it to EazyDraw 8. ![]() Pelsea wrote:How about something like this: Perhaps for other users a photograph will work to record a patch, though if there are only ever a few cables in use I would start to wonder if a synth wasn't a better choice than a modular I do a lot of generative patches involving feedback, chaos, logic, modulation loops, complex CV processing, audio rate modulation, and so on. When my system was only 6U it was still impossible to see the modules underneath the cables sometimes. It's not the size of the system but the nature of the patch that determines the extent of the cable problem. I really don't feel motivated to expand beyond my current 6U/84HP if that's what starts to happen. When I see rigs with cables bundled with a zip tie or similar, I imagine that your interaction becomes so limited by having to deal with cable management. Then again I though it a great idea to get married a couple of times, so what do I know? If this is in the wrong place I apologize, I thought this to be the best place for it. I'm thinking that such a log could prove to be priceless! What I'm thinking about would be for some enterprising person to design an app that would allow you to seamlessly integrate that modular photo with text in some sort of format that makes sense to the modular world. ![]() I even write programs for PLCs, but that's another story. So I'm a hardware guy, that's why I'm so into analog, but I can navigate software when I must. They are great, but they still need to be documented, and I'd be a liar if I said that I was anything but lazy about it. What I did start doing is taking a nice picture of my patches with my phone, and they work great! I can enlarge them and see all the patch points, knob positions, etcetera. Oh I'll start out in a good direction, but I tend to get excited and run ahead of myself, ending up with poor or no notes at all. Howdy folks! I was sitting around yesterday thinking about things when an idea hit me.
