So why the rush to replace Illuminations in 2019?ĭespite many Disney guests expecting Illuminations to be replaced for Epcot’s 40th anniversary in 2022, its seemingly sudden announcement hasn’t surprised fans that much. ![]() The re-imagining of Epcot is cruising ahead with Ratatouille set to debut in the next couple of years, a new Guardians of the Galaxy attraction, a re-imagined Epcot entrance as well as upcoming announcements expected to reveal a new Mary Poppins attraction and a new World Showcase pavilion, Brazil, to be developed in the next 5 or so years. With Disney’s re-imagining of Epcot and general drive towards IP-driven experiences, what can we expect from Illuminations’ successor? Last week Disney announced it’s long-running nightly spectacular, Illuminations: Reflections of Earth, will be replaced at the end of summer 2019.
